2013 continues to be very exciting for Noman Group.
This year, Noman Group started supplying to big names such as Walmart, Target, K-Mart, PVH, Nitori, Esprit, and Primark among others. Its increase in market share has been aided by the fact that several competitors were liquidated. Noman Group has also targeted several untapped markets. For the first time ever, it was able to penetrate the Japanese market. In 2013, it has participated in Heimtextil Frankfurt, Heimtextil Moscow, JapanTex and Australia International Sourcing Fair.
Its production in Fashion Fabric and Home Textile has been boosted to 280,000 Meters (2012: 180,000 Meters) and 300,000 (2012: 250,000), respectively. In the first six months, Terry towel segment achieved production of 50 tons. Revenue was up by over USD 30 million.
The joys of this unprecedented success were, however, marred after the horrific building collapse incident in Savar that claimed over a thousand lives. Although Noman Group is already very compliant with safety & labor right standards, it has become even more vigilant so that not even a minor issue is overlooked. Moreover, it is partnering with other organizations to raise awareness about building safety issues in general.
Noman Group has put much emphasis on corporate social responsibility from the beginning of this year. The last winter has been one of the coldest of all times in this region. Through Ismail Anjuman Ara Foundation, Noman Group donated warm clothes to thousands of people in several parts of the country. It recently successfully initiated an organization-wide blood drive in collaboration with Quantum Foundation. It has also invested heavily in the road infrastructures around few of the factories in the Gazipur area.
Also this year, Noman Group proudly sponsored Musa Ibrahim as his team of mountaineers went on to conquer Mt. Elbrus (5642 meters) as part of their Seven Summit Campaign.
The company’s commitment to renewable energy continues. New solar installations have inched the company towards its long term promise to run parts of its operations off of alternative energy. And, in addition to renewable energy installations, Noman Group has also saved money by increasing its waste diversion efforts. The company is poised to save several million dollars during FY 2013 thanks to its sustainability programs.
Despite several new challenges in the industry, the rest of the year look very promising for the group.
